David Spurlock, Sr
[Might have been David Drury]
son of John Spurlock, Jr

Evidently David moved to Kentucky before he was married with his father and brothers, between 1794 and 1799. He was on a list of Kentucky Militia, "Commissioned Officers, 1799-1804" as "David Spurlock, Lieutenant, 56th Regiment."
This following entry was from Annals of Southwest Virginia 1769-1800 by Summers; though it doesn't seem likely to be the same David since he would have been only 11 years old! --
Dec. 1, 1794 "David Spurlock was appointed overseer of the road from the Merry Fork of Greasy Creek to the Grayson Line." (George Hancock was mentioned in the same record; probably Susanna's uncle)
Maybe his name was David Drury Spurlock.

He was 21 when he married Susanna Hancock about 1804 probably in Kentucky.
Dec. 1808 David bought 50 acres in Beaver Creek from David Morgan (his sister's father-in-law) for 30 pounds.
August 1810 he and Susanna bought 100 acres on Beaver Creek for $250.
Sept 1815 David bought 75 acres on Beaver Creek from John Spurlock for $500.

For some reason David and his family do not appear on the 1810 Ky. census, but in 1820 they were in Floyd Co, Ky. along with 3 other Spurlock heads of families: Matthew & Hiram (David's brothers) and Francis .
David's family on the 1820 census: 220010-02110 - translated to mean:
2 boys under 10 - [Wm. David (8), David Jr. (2)]
2 boys 10-16 - [Pleasant (15), & ?  ]
1 man 26-45 - [David Sr (37)]
2 girls 10-16 - [Rhoda (12), Frances (6)]
1 girl 16-26 - [? ]
1 woman 26-45 - [Susanna]

In 1823 David owned 50 acres on the Louisa Fork of the Sandy River in Floyd County. In 1826 & 1829 he owned 50 acres on the Beaver Creek in Floyd County. Besides being a farmer David was also a carpenter.

About 1830 David took his family down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers to Ark., where they first settled at a point in Arkansas opposite Memphis, Tennessee. Daughter, Rhoda, who had married in 1829, remained in Floyd Co, Ky.

In 1838 David was in Mooney township, Phillips County, Ark;
In 1840 they were in Crittenden County, Ark. (near Memphis).
Arkansas land records show land warrants for David Spurlock in Crittenden County, Ark:
Apr 10, 1837 - 40 acres (sec 9, twp/rng 8N 9E)
Jul 28, 1838 - 40 acres (sec 9, twp/rng 8N 9E)
Aug 20, 1838 - 80 acres (sec 9, twp/rng 8N 9E)
Oct 10, 1839 - 160 acres (sec 12, twp/rng 8N)

The family later moved north to a location between Hardy and Evening Shade in Sharp County, Ark. (then included in Izard Co.).
David Sr. died in 1846 in Evening Shade, Ark. Susanna lived with son, David Jr (1860 census) until her death.
